A Job Done Quietly and Well

My current client has a five story building, two break rooms and two sets of bathroom per floor, with I’m guessing 200+ people per floor – a lot of traffic. One cleaning guy cleans them all and he seems to hit them all at least twice a day. I’m guessing he works for the building or a firm hired by the building. I don’t think I’ve ever seen those areas in need of attention. Paper towels stocked, floors mopped, and all the rest.

It’s not glamorous work. I imagine few people notice that it’s done well, though they would surely notice if it wasn’t.

That’s how most work is.

It’s nice when people notice that you do a good job, but it’s not why we do a good job (or should at least).

Take some time today to pay attention to who does their work quietly and well.

  1. Very well-said “I imagine few people notice that it’s done well, though they would surely notice if it wasn’t”

I remember I frequently told my management long ago that a DBA”s work is just like a janitor”s work. Nobody will notice a good DBA”s work until the s/he leaves.
